ISHPEMING, MI – Joseph Alfred Anderson, age 85, of 1447 Co Rd PRG Ishpeming, passed away on Thursday, December 10, 2020, at UP Health System Bell in Ishpeming after contracting COVID-19.

Joseph was born in Escanaba, Michigan, on August 25, 1935, a son of the late Marie (Pepin) and Alfred Anderson. Joe grew up in Green Creek Location and attended the National Mine School. He married the late Clarann Dally on April 11, 1953. He had worked for UPPCO as a lineman and retired as line foreman in 1990. Joe loved the outdoors, was an avid reader and World War II history buff. He enjoyed woodworking projects, and for many years sawed lumber at his Woodmizer sawmill.

Survivors include three daughters – Susan (Rick) Woodward of Green Bay, WI; Sharon (Glenn) Harvala of Ishpeming; JoAnn (Bruce) Honkala of Ashland, WI; a son, Joseph (Lisa) Anderson of Ishpeming; a sister, Alma McDowell of Kalkaska; a brother, David Anderson of Ishpeming; daughter -in-law, Elaine Anderson of Ishpeming; 13 grandchildren, 27 great- grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Clarann Anderson in 1996; son, Steven Anderson; great-grandson, Max Baldini, sister-in-law, Patt Anderson; and brother-in-law, John “Bubba” McDowell.

Per Joe’s wishes and the current COVID-19 pandemic there will be no public services. A private interment will take place a Northland Chapel Gardens.

Memorials may be directed to the Marquette County Medical Care Facility – Activities Fund, 200 Saginaw St., Ishpeming, MI 49849 in Joe’s memory.

Joe’s children would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to the nursing staffs at UPHS Bell and Marquette for their exceptional care and compassion for our Dad.
