David Lee Erickson

MARQUETTE, MI – David Lee Erickson, age 69, passed away Sunday, November 29, 2020, at Marquette County Medical Care Facility in Ishpeming, following a lifelong battle with M.S.

Born January 21, 1951, in Marquette, a son of Harold and Frances (Chubb) Erickson, David was raised in Marquette and graduated from Marquette Senior High School, Class of 1969. He joined the Army National Guard in 1969, serving for eleven years prior to his honorable discharge. During his guard time, he was called to active duty during the Seney Wildlife fire in 1976. In 1970, following boot camp, David began working for Cleveland Cliffs Iron Company at the Mather B Mine with a backhoe in the underground operation. He concluded his career of 19 years at the Empire Mine driving the huge haul pack trucks. In the 1980’s, David served as a volunteer with the Marquette Township Fire Department, for just three months shy of ten years. His Masonic affiliations included becoming a Master Mason on September 24, 1988, later joining the Scottish Rite to become a Shrine Clown in May 2002. His clown name as Bogie and he greatly enjoyed the fun and excitement he brought to people. He was a familiar sight each year at the circus and Fourth of July parade, sitting in his wheelchair, holding golf clubs as his pitch. He taught himself to make balloon animals and, if you knew him, you probably were the recipient of one of his creations. He loved putting smiles on people’s faces.

David is survived by his parents, Harold and Frances Erickson; his wife, Molly Anderson; daughters, Tracy Cribbs, Virginia Erickson, and Danielle Johnson; grandchildren, Hunter, Dalton, and Walker Cribbs, Gabrielle, Alby, and Bryce Erickson, and Alyssa and Ashton Johnson; his brothers, Bob (Charmaine) Erickson, Steve (Pat) Erickson, Jim (Cindi) Erickson; and his sister, Sheryl (Bob) Morrison.

Friends may visit at Fassbender Swanson Hansen Funeral and Cremation Services on Thursday, December 3, beginning at 10:00 am until the time of the Marquette Lodge 101 Masonic service at 11 a.m. Interment will be made in the Park Cemetery.

Masks and social distancing are required and attendance will be limited to 25 people.
