Jerald Anderson

MARQUETTE, MI – Jerold David Anderson, 73, of Marquette, lovingly known to family and friends as Uncle Jerry or just ‘Jer’ was called home by our Lord on the evening of October 26, 2020 at D.J. Jacobetti Home for Veterans.

Jerry, born February 24, 1947, was a lifelong resident of the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. He was a Yooper through and through and often referred to the area as “God’s country.”

He graduated in 1966 from Bishop Baraga High School. During his school years he served as an altar boy and became a proud member of the Columbian Squires.

Jerry was called upon to serve our country and was drafted by the U.S. Army 4th infantry division on May 3, 1967. He served as a sergeant in the Central Highlands region of Pleiku, Vietnam until his tour was completed and he was honorably discharged on April 19, 1969.

He attended the Jacobetti Skill Center, studying wastewater treatment operations. He began working for the City of Negaunee starting as plant operator and later transferred to heavy equipment operator until retiring.

Jerry was an avid outdoorsman. Any free time was spent hunting or fishing. This was when he was the happiest. He shared this love with many. Everyone looked forward to his camp eggs, venison jerky, and Swedish meatballs. He loved to tell stories of the big ones that got away and we loved listening to them.

He played on many golf and bowling leagues over the years, but his passion was fastpitch softball. Despite having polio as a young child, Jerry excelled at the game as a pitcher. Teaching and passing the love of the game to his nieces and nephews. He was a proud member of the American Legion Post 0349 in Little Lake, Michigan.

Jerry was a man of faith and a lifelong member of St. Peter Cathedral, serving our Lord at Perpetual Eucharistic Adoration for many years. He also helped to serve meals at “The Room at the Inn” downstairs of the cathedral.

Although Jerry never had children of his own, he took an active role in helping raise and teach his nieces and nephews. He is loved beyond measure and will be greatly missed. We love you more than tongue can tell. Soar with the angels and watch over us all!
