Lowell D. 'Red' Jolin

RESERVE, LA – Lowell D. “Red” Jolin, age 85, of Marquette, died Wednesday, September 9, 2020, at home following a long illness.

Born January 11, 1935, in Marquette, a son of Charles Jolin and Rosella (Nebel) Jolin, Lowell was raised in Marquette. Rosella Jolin raised Lowell and his siblings as a single Mother. Lowell in his earlier years helped his elder Brother and Mother support the family. Lowell married Annette Shelafoe in 1955. They had four children together, Marie, Susan, Greg and Jeff. They were divorced in 1963. Lowell married his beloved wife of 47 years, Florence Roberts in 1973.

Lowell joined the Michigan National Guard in 1964 where he served for 31 years. He retired from the Guard as a Staff Sargent E6. Lowell’s employment in Marquette included 7 years for Cliff Dow and 30 years for the City of Marquette Department of Public Service. Lowell was a heavy equipment operator for both the city and the National Guard.

Lowell enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping and visiting with his family. He loved to play cards and work puzzles. He was a coin collector that loved searching for the next great find. Lowell always had projects going; he enjoyed being in his workshop. Lowell and Flo both loved to dance and could always be found on the dance floor at family events. Lowell was a longtime member of Richard Jopling Post 44 of the American Legion.

Lowell lived most of his life in Marquette, he moved to Reserve, Lousiana in 2017.

Lowell is survived by his wife, Florence; his children, Marie Holmes (Dan), Susan Westfall, Gregory Jolin (Robin), Jeffrey Jolin (Chris), Natalie Cruz (Dave); his grandchildren, Emily Detrisac (Bill), Daniel Swan (Erinn), Craig Cruz, Shaunee Cruz, Beverly Jolin, Jonah Jolin, Raya Jolin, Autumn Jolin, Faith Jolin, Nathan Jolin; great-grandchildren, Matthew, Annabelle, Caydence, George, Jace and Hannah; brother, Charles (Bub) Jolin (Jackie) of Aurora,Colorado; numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. Lowell was preceded in death by his parents; brother Kenneth Jolin, sister, Carol Kunick, and brother-in-law, Sonny Kunick.
