Theodore G. ‘Greg’ Lindstrom

MARQUETTE TOWNSHIP, MI – Theodore Gregory “Greg” Lindstrom, age 83, of Marquette Township, passed away Saturday, July 18, 2020, at home, with most of his family at his side.

Born September 15, 1936, in Marquette, a son of Theodore and Fern (Gregory) Lindstrom, Greg was raised in Marquette and was a 1954 graduate of Graveraet High School. Greg’s love of antique cars developed early and remained a lifelong passion. He purchased a 1924 Model T with all $15 of his graduation money, diligently cared for it, and it remains in his garage today. Following graduation, Greg attended NMU for a time before spending a season on an ore boat. He moved to Peoria, Illinois, where he was employed with Caterpillar, Inc., as a draftsman for ten years. During this time, Greg enjoyed singing with the Pekin Barbershop Chorus in Pekin, Illinois, an organization that not only performed locally, made recordings, but won several international championships.

Greg loved the barbershop style and belonged to a chorus in Punta Gorda, Florida during his retirement. When Greg left Peoria, he returned to Marquette where he and his brother started Lindy’s Shell Gas Station. Greg later managed other gas stations and AAMCO Transmission Shop. In 1990, Greg and wife, Joanne, traveled in their motor home for a time before spending 25 winters in Punta Gorda, Florida. Greg loved the 4th of July festivities and for 35 years his yellow Model A truck was a hallmark in the Marquette parade, as he led with fellow Exchange Club members, passing out flags to the children. It was among his greatest joys! In addition to the Exchange Club, Greg was a member of the Model A Club, Pasty Night Club, and United Methodist Church.

Greg is survived by his wife, Joanne (Forwick) whom he married in 1974; Allen Lindstrom of Charlotte, NC, Kriestan (Ashley) Beck of Lakeland, GA, Derek Lindstrom of Burnsville, MN, Renee (Felix) Gonzalez of New Orleans, LA, and Emily Lindstrom of Baton Rouge, LA; a sister, Alice (Meinhard) Loppnow of Green Bay, WI; a brother, David (Linda) Lindstrom of Wooster, OH; many nieces and nephews; and his friend of 72 years, Dick Lutey. Greg was preceded in death by his parents; and a brother, Alden Lindstrom.

A celebration, honoring Greg’s life, will be held on July 4, 2021.
