ISHPEMING, MI – Lucille Marie Palomaki, age 95, of Ishpeming, passed away Tuesday June 30, 2020, at her home, in the loving care of her caregivers from Lake Superior Life Care and Hospice.

Born May 9, 1925, in Hibbing, Minnesota, a daughter of Frederick and Sidna (Majala) Hibernig, Lucille was raised in Hibbing until age three when her family moved to Ishpeming. She graduated from Ishpeming High School, Class of 1943, and enrolled at Northern Michigan University. She received her bachelors degree in 1951 and began her teaching career in Republic that same year. Her career spanned 32 years and she retired from the Republic School System in 1983. Lucille not only taught cooking and home economics, but was a talented cook at home, loved to shop and never wore the same outfit twice, and was known for her wonderful sense of humor, a real character. Lucille was a member of the New Life Church and later attended Trinity Lutheran Church, and was a member of the Ishpeming VFW Auxiliary.

Survivors include her son; Paddy (Gail) Palomaki of Ishpeming, a daughter-in-law; Karen Palomaki of Ishpeming, her six grandchildren; Christian (Marissa) Palomaki of Marquette, Matthew (Andrea) Palomaki of Clarksville, TN, Rebecca (Trent) Neumann of Kalispell, MN, Tim (Angela) Palomaki of Vicksburg, MI, Brandi (Jeremy) Hartsel of Ishpeming, and Sean (Melissa) Palomaki of Kingsford, MI, 18 great-grandchildren, her brother; Fred Hibernig of Battle Creek, numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband; Rudolph and a son; Perry Palomaki.

Due to COVID-19, private services will be held.
