Kenneth Roger ‘Skip’ Gustafson

BIG BAY, MI – Kenneth Roger “Skip” Gustafson, age 73, Big Bay resident passed away on Monday, July 6, 2020 at his residence.

Kenneth was born in Ishpeming, Michigan on August 29, 1946, a son of the late Elsie E. (Lindberg) and Bertle Alexander Gustafson. He graduated from Ishpeming High School, class of 1966, received a bachelor’s degree in Industrial Arts in 1968, and a master’s degree in 1978 from Northern Michigan University.

Skip began his teaching career in Kiel, WI in 1968. He worked as a union carpenter, working for Prepak Concrete for many years. He retired from Carpenters Union Local 1510, being a due’s paying member for 41 years.

Skip was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church of Negaunee, Ishpeming ELK’s Lodge #447, Big Bay Sportsman Club, and an NRA member. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, reading, living on Lake Superior and hunting camp on the Triple AAA. Skip was also a gunsmith and enjoyed building and racing cars.

Skip is survived by a daughter, Wendi Jo (“JT”) Thomas, of Negaunee, 2 grandchildren Haley Thomas, and Tyler Thomas, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his mother Elsie in 1971 and father Bertle in 1978,

A private graveside service will be held at Ishpeming Cemetery with Rev. Steven Solberg officiating.
