William J. Levi

DIORITE LOC., MI – William J. Levi, age 83, of 26579 Co Rd 496, Champion passed away Tuesday, June 23, 2020, at UP Health System Marquette where he had been admitted a day prior.

Bill was born in Ishpeming on August 15, 1936, a son of the late Hilma (Oja) and William A. Levi. He was a graduate of the Ishpeming High School. Bill served in the U.S. Navy from 1958 – 1961 having served during the Cuban Crisis in Cuba. Upon his honorable discharge from the Navy Bill worked in Chicago as a welder for some years prior to returning to his beloved UP where he could enjoy hunting and fishing. Bill was employed at Cleveland Cliffs Iron Co. for over 30 years as a welder, working mainly at the Brownstone in Ishpeming and retired from the Tilden Mine in 1999. Bill loved to spend time at camp in Skanee where countless hours were spent fishing in Keweenaw Bay on Lake Superior along with bird and deer hunting on the Skanee Peninsula.

Survivors include his wife of 40 years, Betty (Cardew) Levi, of Diorite Loc., brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Bob and Rona Cardew of Champion, nieces and nephews – Erick and Sherry Cardew and their children – Abby, Kenny and Ashley; Amanda (Jerry Duby) Cardew and son Eddie; Robert and Bobbi Cardew; Brandi and Mike Tasson and their children – Victoria, Benjamin and Madison.

He was preceded in death by his parents along with an infant sister Gloria.

A private memorial service will be held at the Bjork and Zhulkie Funeral Home.
