ESCANABA, MI – Diane Faye Elder, 78, passed away late Saturday morning, March 7, 2020 at her home in Escanaba.

She was born in Marquette, MI, on December 12, 1941, daughter of Raymond A. and Vivian I. (Hakala) Gutzman. Diane was raised in Marquette, MI, Skandia, MI, Chico, CA and Escanaba,MI where she has lived for 34 years. She graduated Graveraet High school class of 1960, in Marquette, MI.

On June 29, 1963 she married Lysle L. Elder at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church. Along with being a mother, Diane worked several jobs over the years such as Garden Room Restaurant, Jade Garden, House of Ludington, Swedish Pantry, farming, a sales representative at Nextel and Hawaiian Tropics distributer until her retirement in 2003.

Diane was a loving mother and grandmother who cherished raising and taking care of her children. She enjoyed gardening, flowers, raising animals and vacationing at her children’s and grandchildren’s homes.

She was a member of the Steam and Gas Engine Association and Civic Center.

Survivors include her husband, Lysle L. Elder of Escanaba, MI; children, Lysle Ray (Kathryn) Elder of Rancho Palos Verdes, CA, Mark Jay (Mary) Elder of Ford River, MI and Stacey Faye Elder (fiance James Glass) of Washinton, PA; grandchildren, Chris Elder of San Francisco, CA, Jordan Elder of Marino Del Ray, CA, Kelsea Elder of Mequon, WI, Brandee Mulligan of Wauwatosa, WI, Brenda Barra of Edgerton, WI, Kristin Jaeger of Edwards, CO, and Aidan Glass of Washington, PA; six great-grandchildren; siblings, Dale Gutzman and Debra Gutzman Vidlund; nieces and nephews, Erin (Gutzman) Rice, Michele (Gutzman) Creaney, Rachel (Vidlund) Tedder, Naomi (Vidlund) Evans, Robert Botsford, Derek Botsford, George Shiotelis III, David Shiotelis and Kevin Shiotelis; cousins, Dorothy Curry, Sally Morrison, Emery Dorrow, Maryann Mico, Jan Johnson, Greg Ree and Gary Gutzman.

Diane is preceded in death by her parents, Raymond A. and Vivian I. (Hakala) Gutzman.

Services will be held at the convenience of the family.
