PALMER, MI – Cheryl Ann ‘Chook’ Boyer, 68, of Nicholas Ave., Palmer, passed away early Thursday morning, March 12, 2020 at her son’s home in Newberry. Cheryl was born December 26, 1951 in Chicago to John and Mary (Nelson) Jokipii, graduated from Negaunee High School, Class of 1970 and was a lifelong area resident. She was employed as a nurse’s aide at the Palmer Home for the Aged for over 30 years where she served as their union steward. She also worked in the dietary department at the Marquette County Medical Care Facility for 12 years.

Mrs. Boyer was a member of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church, Palmer, and was also a member of the Negaunee/Ishpeming Women’s Horseshoe League for over 30 years.

In her spare time, she enjoyed playing cribbage, working puzzle books, knitting, baking and loved putting on New Year’s Day dinner for her family. Above all, Cheryl adored watching her grandson grow up, and together they enjoyed tea and graham crackers.

Surviving are her two sons, Steven (Jenifer) Boyer of Newberry and Jamie (Jessica) Boyer of Palmer; her grandson, Bryce Boyer; two sisters, Chris (Jack) Richards of Palmer and Kathleen (Ben) Steinhauer of Ossining, NY; several nieces, nephews and cousins; and her longtime friend, Julie Anderson.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Ronald Boyer in 1991; and an infant brother, Ronald.

Funeral services will be held at noon on Tuesday, March 17th at Koskey Funeral Home with Rev. Larry Van Damme officiating. Burial will be in the Negaunee Cemetery. The family will greet relatives and friends from 10 a.m. until the time of services at 12 p.m. at the funeral home on Tuesday, and also at a pot-luck styleluncheon immediately following services at the Richmond Township Hall.
