Delores J. Book

She was born on March 5, 1934 in Stambaugh Township, MI, the daughter of the late Caesar and Margaret (Aldegarie) Garavet. She attended the Caspian and Stambaugh Schools, graduating from Stambaugh High School.

Delores married Arnold Book on March 6, 1954 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Stambaugh, MI. The couple started life together at Sunset Lake, returning after Arnold’s retirement in 1987. They celebrated their 59th wedding anniversary in 2013. Arnold preceded her in death on July 16, 2013.

She was a member of the First Lutheran Church in Iron River and a former member of Trinity Lutheran Church. Delores was an avid reader, enjoyed playing cards and games, working jigsaw puzzles, and traveling in her RV. She loved canning, baking, making her wonderful buttermilk pancakes as well as cheering for the Green Bay Packers. Throughout her life, she did a lot of crafts from knitting to needle point. Delores loved the Upper Peninsula, especially Sunset Lake. Family was very important to her. She enjoyed spending time playing with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. One of Delores’ greatest blessings was raising her granddaughter, Stacy Louis.

Delores is survived by her sons, Charles (Donna) Book of Lenoir City, TN, Bruce (Judy) Book of Ishpeming, MI, and Niles Book of Negaunee, MI; daughter, Gail Johnson of Marquette, MI; grandchildren, Stephanie White, Thomas Book, Stacy Louis, Ashley Allen, and Adam Book; great grandchildren, Trent Louis, Olivia Book, and Cooper Allen; brothers, Peter Garavet of Neenah, WI and James Garavet of Iron River, MI; sister, Elizabeth (Edward) Petroff of Crystal Falls, MI; brother-in-law, Ronald Sherwood of Crystal Falls, MI; nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.

She was also preceded in death by her sister, Rosie Sherwood and son-in-law, Robert Johnson.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, February 29, 2020 from 9:00 to 11:00am at the First Lutheran Church in Iron River. Memorial services will follow at 11am with Pastor Avery Carr to officiate.
