Deacon Warren Vonck

MARQUETTE, MI – Deacon Warren K. Vonck, 58, of Marquette, passed away Saturday evening, January 25, 2020, at his home, surrounded by his loving family and under the care of Lake Superior Life Care and Hospice.

Warren was born on December 21, 1961, in Marquette, one of six children born to the late Raymond and Elinor (Swanson) Vonck. He was a 1980 graduate of Marquette Senior High School and Michigan Tech University in 1984 with a degree in Mechanical Engineering.

Following graduation from Michigan Tech, Warren began working at AC Sparkplug in Flint, MI. Following his father’s retirement, he joined the family business, Dresseler Mechanical, in 1992. In 2004, Warren was ordained to the permanent diaconate for the Diocese of Marquette, having served as a deacon at St. Louis the King Catholic Church in Harvey and previously at St. Peter Cathedral in Marquette. He mentored and counseled countless teens through his ministry with the LifeTeen Program at both parishes.

In his free time, Warren enjoyed going to his cabin on Deer Lake with his wife, Lezle, deer camp with family and friends, following the Green Bay Packers and driving his Camaro. He especially loved and enjoyed being with his two granddaughters.

Survivors include his wife, Lezle (Vincent) Vonck, who he married on September 28, 1985, at First United Methodist Church in Bad Axe, Michigan; two children, Dr. Jessica (Matt) Pruente of Plymouth, MI and Carl (Jennifer) Vonck of Marquette; two cherished granddaughters, Elinor and Jocelyn; a sister, Pam (Dan) Carl of Richland WA; four brothers, Randy (Beth) Vonck of Ypsilanti, MI, Michael “Mick” (Judy) Vonck of Marquette, Raymond “Bud” (Mary) Vonck of Ada, MI and Paul Vonck of Nashua, NH; also many nieces and nephews.

Visitation will take place on Friday, January 31st, St Louis the King Catholic Church from 3 to 7 p.m. where the rosary will be recited at 6 p.m., the parish vigil at 6:30 p.m. and evening prayer at 7 p.m. Visitation will also take place on Saturday, February 1st, from 10 to 11 a.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday at 11 a.m. in the church with the Most Rev. John Doerfler, Bishop of Marquette presiding and concelebrated by Rev. Glenn Theoret, Rev. Ben Paris and priests of the Diocese of Marquette. Deacons Scott Jamieson, Steve Gualdoni and Gregg St. John will assist at the altar along with other deacons of the diocese. A luncheon will take place in Father Gauthier Hall followed by burial in the Park Cemetery.

Deacon Vonck’s brother deacons will act as his escorts.
