Sabina Long

GWINN, MI – Sabina (Warminski) Long, age 89, of Gwinn, entered eternal life Tuesday, November 19, 2019, at Christian Park Nursing Center in Escanaba.

Born February 20, 1930, in Detroit, Sabina was raised in Detroit and graduated from Chadsey High School. She married John Goszkowski and together the couple set about establishing a home and raising two children. Her first employments included Cundari Pizzeria and later as a hostess at the Dearborn Inn which was associated with the Ford Motor Company and Greenfield Village. Later in life, she married her second husband, Richard Long. The couple moved to California when Richard had a job transfer. There, she first learned to ride a motorcycle and had her own bike and got her first tattoo. The couple loved to visit Catalina Island and go boating. Richard and Sabina returned to Michigan, residing in Linden on Lobdell Lake. Sabina was a talented artist who painted extensively, loved opera, and took pleasure in keeping her house spotless. She enjoyed collecting antiques, refinishing furniture, and visiting thrift stores.

Sabina also served as caregiver to her parents when they were older and volunteered of her time and talent at the Jacobetti Home for Veterans.

She was a force of nature, beautiful, sassy, stylish, smart, and sometimes stern, and sarcasm was a part of her arsenal — attributes she passed on to her children. She would laugh about being “unsweet”. She was funny, warm, loving, and generous, a lover of books, good movies, dancing and tattoos. She was a lover of animals and had many pets over the years, her last being her companion a little Yorkie, named Cujo.

An occasional scotch or vodka tonic gave her pleasure.

Above all, it was family that gave her the most joy. A true matriarch, she leaves a void that can never be filled.

Survivors include her son, Gregory Goszkowski of Gwinn, who was her devoted caregiver for eight years; her daughter, Sandra (Charles) Rousseau of Kiva; and her grandchildren, Stacy (Gerald) Moore of Marquette, Heather (Joseph) Naeyaert of Stonington, Adam (Rebecca) Rousseau of Stoughton, WI, Jason (Jessica) Goszkowski of Appleton, WI, and Katie Goszkowski of Colorado Springs, CO; five great-grandchildren, Joseph and Brett Gatiss, Ian Helsel, Gwendolyn and Audrey Naeyaert, Gabe, Griffin and Quinn Rousseau and Jarek and Jaelin Goszkowski.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Josef and Stella Stefan; husband, Richard Long; and former husband, John Goszkowski.

The family would like to express their appreciation to the staff of Christian Park Village in Escanaba, for their compassionate, professional care over the last two months and for the many kindnesses extended to the family.

Honoring Sabina’s request, no public services will be scheduled.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be directed to D.J Jacobetti Home for Veterans Activity Fund, 425 Fisher Street, Marquette, MI 49855.
