Karen E. (Hannula) Randell

HARVEY, MI — Karen E. (Hannula) Randell, passed away on Friday, November 8, 2019, at the Marquette County Medical Care Facility in Ishpeming.

She was born March 12, 1942, the daughter of Eino and Irma (Abramson) Hannula, and often spoke fondly about growing up on her family’s dairy farm in Woodland, near Calumet.

She is survived by her husband of 56 years, retired MSHS teacher, Clyde Randell; three children, Kriss (husband Leland) Olgren of Frankenmuth, Kim Randell of Marquette, and Kent (wife Brook nee Sloan) Randell of St. Mary’s County, Maryland; six grandchildren, Stephen (wife Cynthia nee Koepf) Olgren, Hannah (fiance Michael Swabash) Olgren, Melissa Olgren, Corbin Kronschnabel, Charley Kronschnabel, and Sparrow Jane Randell; and brothers, Clifford (wife Joann) Hannula of Laurium and Harry (wife Lois) Hannula of Marquette. In honor of their mother, all three of Karen’s children remembered her name in the middle name of their oldest daughters.

Karen Randell is a graduate of Calumet High School, attended Suomi College (now Finlandia University), and has a B.A. in business (with honors) from Northern Michigan University. She worked at the Skills Center of Northern Michigan University and as a teacher before selling real estate. Karen Randell was a co-broker/owner and co-founder of Century 21 Prime Real Estate in Marquette and maintained lifelong friendships with the realtors of Century 21. She loved animals and working in her flower garden, and became an expert stained glass artist later in life. Her intelligence, wry wit, and wisdom touched all who knew her.

Her family wishes to thank the staff of the Marquette County Medical Care Facility, who accommodated a steady stream of family and friends.

Memorial services will be held at the First Apostolic Lutheran Church in West Ishpeming on Saturday, November 16. Visitation will begin at 10 am with the service at 11:00 am. Roger Kangas will officiate. Lunch will follow at noon.
