Sandra Haglund

MARQUETTE, MI – Sandra A. Haglund, age 82, of Marquette, and former Skandia resident, entered eternal life Sunday evening, October 27, 2019, at UP Health System Marquette, in the loving, comforting care of her family.

Born October 11, 1937, in Sand River, a daughter of George E. and Laura M. (LeMaire) Dale, Sandy was raised in the Sand River area. Following her marriage to Harold J. Haglund on September 15, 1952, in Skandia, Sandy resided on the Haglund Family Homestead on Yalmer Road for the next 55 years. There, she and Harold raised eight children throughout the years. Sandy loved being a wife, mother, and homemaker and was very devoted to her family. At home, she found true happiness and fulfillment in her life through raising her children, and eventually helping to raise grandkids. She possessed a strong work ethic and managed, from time to time, to take on part time jobs such as picking potatoes at the Bahrman farm, along with the raising of her children. For over ten years, Harold and Sandy traveled in their motorhome to Laughlin, Nevada, to spend the winters. Following Harold’s passing in 2008, Sandy continued camping with the family, traveled to Maui, Hawaii where she loved watching the whales, later purchased her second travel trailer, and enjoyed four-wheeling. She was a passionate and devoted fan of Elmer Aho, amassed a huge collection of his tapes, and fell asleep each evening listening to his program both live and recorded. She was such a devoted fan that Elmer attended Harold and Sandy’s 50th Wedding Anniversary celebration. Even when camping with her children and grandkids, and sitting around the campfire, the group sang Elmer Aho songs. Although raising her family was her full time hobby, Sandy made time for her other pleasures, pontooning, shopping, talking on the phone and collecting all the latest news, assisting with the family maple syrup production, including the cleanup, and had a knack for remembering birthdays, anniversaries, and other special occasions. Kind and considerate of others, she was a great role model for her children and grandkids and will be greatly missed. Each of them carries into the future the imprint of a loving, devoted mother, mentor, friend, and a little bit of Elmer!

Sandra is survived by her children, Gary (Annie) Haglund of Maui, HI, Harold (Ruth) Haglund Jr of Shingleton, Lois (Mike) Rowland of Skandia, Sue (Curt) Mathews of Marquette, Kay (Gary) Sims of Marquette, Julie (Jeff ) Burklund of Gladstone, Mark (Bonnie) Haglund and Shannon (Kevin) Delongchamp both of Ishpeming; 27 grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews. In addition of her parents, Sandra was preceded in death by her husband, Harold; three grandchildren, Anthony Dale Arvey, Joseph Robert Just, and John Robert Rowland; a great-grandson, Adam Scott Haglund; her sister, Virginia (the late Reino) Savola; and brother, George “Sonny”ù (the late June) Dale.

The family will receive relatives and friends at St. Louis the King Catholic Church on Saturday, November 2, beginning at 10:00 am. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 am with Rev. Glenn Theoret, pastor, as celebrant. A reception will follow in Fr. Gauthier Hall. Interment will be made in the Holy Cross Cemetery.
