MARQUETTE TOWNSHIP, MI – Robert Joseph Reinert, Jr., age 71, of Marquette Township, entered eternal life Saturday morning, October 12, 2019, at home, in the loving, comforting care of his family and caregivers of Lake Superior Life Care and Hospice.

Born January 5, 1948, in Dayton, Ohio, a son of Robert Joseph and Mary (Heller) Reinert, Sr., Robert was raised in Kettering, Ohio and graduated from Fairmont West High School in 1966. Robert was very involved in sports and was a member of the school’s baseball team when it won the state championship. He entered the US Air Force in 1966, receiving his basic training in Texas before being assigned to Germany for two years. On June 7, 1969, Robert was united in marriage to Jennifer Warrington in England. His Germany assignment continued for another year before being transferrer to Aurora, Colorado for the last six months of military service. Honorably discharged in 1970 with the rank of sergeant, Robert and Jennifer returned to Kettering, Ohio where he studied computer technology. In July of 1971, the couple relocated to Marquette to be nearer family. Locally, Robert began an apprenticeship as a brick layer, culminating in his receiving master brick and stone mason status. For over 20 years he was employed in the Engineering Department at the Marquette Branch Prison, supervising renovations and repairs, as well as training inmates in several building skills.

Robert had a passion for sports, especially golf. He played at many courses and held memberships at the Marquette Golf and Country Club and Wawonowin Country Club in Ishpeming. He especially enjoyed watching his nephew, Tanner Phillips, play Redmen Hockey and was an avid Packer fan. A proud veteran of the Vietnam Era, Robert belonged to Richard Jopling Post 44 of the American Legion.

Robert is survived by his wife of 50 years, Jennifer; his daughter, Wendy Faseler and grandson, Kanon Faseler of Scottsdale, AZ; a sister, Janene Hammond of Columbus, OH, his brother, Joseph (Joy) Reinert of Ringgold, GA; sister-in-law, Josephine (Joseph) Clement of Marquette; many nieces and nephews, among them a niece, Nicole Phillips of Marquette and nephew, Jonathan Clement of Paris, France; great-niece and great-nephew, Brianne and Tanner Phillips of Marquette; and many cousins in Ohio and relatives in England.

Robert was preceded in death by his parents.

The family would like to express their appreciation to the staff of the Jacobetti Home for Veterans and caregivers of Lake Superior Life Care and Hospice, for facilitating Robert’s desire to spend his final days at home with family. Your many kindnesses to him and to the family will always be treasured and remembered.

Private family graveside services were held at the Park Cemetery.
