James E. ‘Jim’ Ayotte

James Ayotte

ISHPEMING, MI – James E. “Jim” Ayotte, of Ishpeming, passed away Sunday, October 20, 2019 at the D.J. Jacobetti Home for Veterans in Marquette.

Jim was born on April 7, 1951 in Ishpeming to Jean (Ayotte) Baggiore and the late Alvin Ayotte. He graduated from Ishpeming High School in 1969. Jim attended Northern Michigan University and the National School of Meat Cutting in Toledo, Ohio. He served as a cook in the Army from 1971-1974.

He worked for Burt’s IGA, Angeli’s, St. Vincent DePaul Store, Negaunee IGA, Super One Foods in Marquette and Negaunee which he retired from after 26 years.

Jim was president of the Ishpeming Cribbage League which he was a proud to have been a member of 42 years, never missing a week of cribbage from 1975 to 2018. He belonged to the American Cribbage Congress, Ishpeming Knights of Columbus, Greenwood American Legion, and St. John’s Catholic Church in Ishpeming.

Jim is survived by his wife of 43 years, Mari Ayotte, two children, Amy (Joe) Stakvel and Glenn Ayotte, his mother Jean (Ayotte) Baggiore of Ishpeming, a sister Carol (John) Denefe of Rogers, AR, and his grandchildren, Zoe and Annabelle Stakvel and Elaina Emmendorfer, along with nieces and nephews.

Jim was preceded in death by his father Alvin Ayotte and brother William Ayotte.

Jim’s family will greet relatives and friends on Thursday October 24, 2019 from 10:00 am – 11:00 am at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church in Ishpeming where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 am with Fr. Larry Van Damme to officiate.

A luncheon will follow at K/D Hall at St. Johns.
