Walter Henry Hillier

YAKIMA, WA – Walter Henry Hillier, 70, born, Aug. 24th 1948, passed away unexpectedly at his home on June 21st, 2019.

Walter was born and raised in Marquette, MI. He is the son of the late Raymond and Evelyn Hillier.

Walter, along with his 13 siblings grew up in South Marquette. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening and getting into mischief. When growing up, Walter was the neighborhood “go to” guy to find out what the daily plans were.

There was a side to Walter that one would not want to “dare” him, as his energy, imagination and passion to explore earned him the title as the “South Marquette Hellion”.

After graduation from Marquette Senior High, Walter served in the US Navy for 4 years. He was stationed in the Vietnam War Zone, receiving an Honorable Discharge. He was a jack of all trades and worked many jobs throughout his life. He retired from American Pool Supply in WA.

Walter lived mainly in Marquette and WA throughout his life. He loved and adored his children and grandchildren. He didn’t ask for much in life, he worked hard and enjoyed time with his family.

Walter loved horses and was known as an excellent horse trainer. He was involved in the Civil War Reenactment, traveling to various areas to reenact the Civil War events. He once rode side by side with Sam Elliott at one of the shows. Walter took great pride in being involved in this activity.

Walter is survived by 5 children – David, Jeffrey, Jimmy (Alison), Michael (Aleshia), and Jennifer. His 10 grandchildren whom he loved dearly. His siblings – David (Joan), Dan (Joan), Kathi Schultz (Jon), Tom- deceased (Joy), Dennis (Dianne), Howard (Linda), Shirley Lehtomaki (Lloyd), Lynn Larson, Terry (Debbie), Charles (Janice), Beverly Certo (Tony), Joe (Cindy) and Tim (Patty). His Uncle, Brain (Arlene), several nieces, nephews and cousins. Special childhood friends Dale Bolduc and Richie Smith, WA freinds Ken and Terry Fischer and his family at American Pool Supply.

Walter was preceded in death by both his parents, Raymond and Evelyn Hillier – brother, Thomas Hillier and nephew Terrance Hillier. Several Aunt and Uncles.

There will be a Memorial gathering to celebrate Walt’s life at 336 Silver Creek Rd in Marquette, MI on Aug 3rd. The celebration will start at 4 p.m. and consist of a Pot Luck dinner. Please bring stories to share of your memories of Walter.
