Donald Robare

NEGAUNEE, MI – Donald George Robare, 92, of 649 Mitchell Ave., Negaunee, passed away peacefully early Friday morning, July 19, 2019 at his home in the care of his loving family and U.P. Home Health and Hospice.

Donald was born June 15, 1927 to George and Audrey (Allen) Robare, attended Negaunee High School and was a lifelong Negaunee resident.

He married Millicent Ruona on August 24, 1946 and they enjoyed 73 years together.

Donald enlisted in the United States Air Force in 1945 and was honorably discharged in 1947. Following his service to his country, he worked for CCI at the Mather ‘A’ Mine for 13 years before joining the Negaunee Police Department. He began as a patrolman and worked his way up to Chief of Police. Donald left the police department to become Superintendent of Public Works of Negaunee until retiring in 1986.

Mr. Robare enjoyed spending time at camp and was an avid Green Bay Packer fan.

Surviving are his loving wife, Milly; daughter, Donnette Robare of Marquette; three sons: Scott of Los Angeles, CA, Curt (Lisa) and Tim, both of Negaunee; his grandson, Ryan Robare of San Clemente, CA; brother, Daryl of Washington; and brothers-in-law: Roger (Connie) Houseman of Leesburg, GA and Werner Talus of Silver Bay, MN; along with several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; in-laws, Henry and Hazel Houseman; sister-in-law, Betty Ruona Talus and two brothers-in-law: Leonard Ruona and Henry W. Houseman.

Honoring Donald’s wishes, family graveside services will be held at a later date.
