Phillip Abbott

ISHPEMING, MI – Phillip J. Abbott, age 37, of Ishpeming passed away on Saturday, June 22, 2019.

Phillip was born in Marquette, MI on November 2, 1981, son of Cheryl J. (Lyyski) and the late Stewart W. Abbott. He was a graduate of the Westwood High School, Class of 2001. Phil went on to attend NMU’s Jacobetti Skills Center taking up Auto Body Repair and HVAC. For the past 4 years Phil was employed as a Corrections Officer at the Baraga Maximum Correctional Facility. Phil will be remembered as one who could fix about anything. He had great carpentry skills and could build a house from the ground up, having worked for ten years in the building trade for Lori Noskey Construction.

Phil was a True Yooper Man, enjoying Hunting, Fishing, Boating, Four Wheeling, and spending time at camp, all of these while in the company of his kids along with family and friends. His hunting revolved around his dog Andi while trying to get birds, and amongst friends while Mule Deer hunting in Wyoming.

Survivors include his wife Laylah (Hamzeh) Abbott, and their sons Liam and Aidan all of Ishpeming; his mother Cheryl Abbott of Ishpeming; sister, Julia (Scott) Mattila and her children James & Jeanna of Green Bay, WI; three brothers, John Abbott of Carson City, MI; Richard Abbott and Matthew Abbott both of Ishpeming; sister-in-law Sarah Hamzeh of Westminster, CO; father-in-law Hani (Hanan) Hamzeh of Swansea, IL; along with several nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts & uncles and special friends Kurt & Renae, Lil Ricky, Dale, Doug, Scooter, Billy and Becky, Tony and Rae.

He was preceded in death by his father Stewart and a cousin Dale Hawkins.

Phillip’s family will greet relatives and friends from 6:00 – 8:00PM on Thursday, June 27, 2019, at the NorthIron Church in Ishpeming, where the Michigan Department of Corrections will stand as Honor Guard. Memorial services will follow at 8:00PM Thursday in the NorthIron Church with the Rev. Mark Broberg to officiate.

Interment will take place at the Negaunee Cemetery.
