Nancy Ann Emblom
ISHPEMING, MI – Nancy Ann Emblom of 260 South Steel Street in Ishpeming passed away at her home on Saturday, June 15. In recent years she has suffered from compression fractures in her back and most recently general weakness in her body.
Nancy was born on May 9, 1939, and recently celebrated her 80th birthday. She was a 1957 graduate of Ishpeming High School and also a graduate of Northern Michigan University where she earned a bachelor’s degree.
She initially worked at WJPD radio in Ishpeming before moving on to WDMJ radio in Marquette where she worked for several years. Her final employment was at the Marquette County Airport in Negaunee where she worked as a secretary.
She enjoyed traveling with Lane Dawson on a number of Debbi Tours. She and her brother Bill also took several bus tours with Moore Fun Tours of Green Bay, Wisconsin, and Lamers Bus Tours in Wisconsin.
Nancy enjoyed spring yard work planting flowers and found special enjoyment in feeding the birds, squirrels, and chipmunks in her yard. Animals and the environmental issues were very special to her and she contributed to numerous animal and environmental causes throughout the country.
Nancy was preceded in death by her parents Carl and Martha Emblom of Ishpeming. She is survived by her brother Bill Emblom and family dog Frankie. Additional survivors include Bill Taipala of Marquette, Jack Taipala of Chicago, Illinois, Ruth Goodell of Indianapolis, Indiana, and Robert Taipala of lower Michigan.
Funeral services will be held at the Bjork and Zhulkie Funeral Home on Wednesday, June 19, 2019 with visitation beginning at 10:00a.m. until 12:00 noon. Pastors D. Michael Carriere and David Ryerson will officiate at the noon service. A lunch will be served at the Eastwood Apostolic Lutheran Church in Negaunee following the services. Interment will take place at the Ishpeming Cemetery.
