Michael Mikulich

MUNISING, MI – Michael “Mike” K. Mikulich, age 69, of Munising, died unexpectedly Wednesday, June 12, 2019 at his home in Norton Shores, Michigan following a lengthy illness. He was born on November 12, 1949 in Munising, Michigan to the late Charles and Beatrice (Gamelin) Mikulich. Mike graduated from Sacred Heart School and then from Wm. G. Mather High School in 1967. He then attended NMU and earned a bachelor’s degree in accounting. Mike worked as a manager at the Munising Community Credit Union from 1974 until 1979. On November 24, 1979, Mike married Karen L. Trumbell and together they raised their two daughters. He began working for Kimberly-Clark as a cost analyst in the financial services department in October of 1979. He was promoted through various positions in the Finance Department. He retired from Neenah Paper on February 1, 2018 as an accounting coordinator after working for over thirty-eight years at the Munising Mill. Although Mike moved on from his managerial position at the Credit Union, he was brought back and sat on the board of directors and served as the treasurer for the past thirty years. Mike enjoyed reading, road trips with Karen, and cheering on the Green Bay Packers. He was a faithful member of Sacred Heart Church, where he served as a lector and on the parish financial committee. Mike was a compassionate and caring person, who had a laugh that made everyone smile. He was a wonderful husband and father.

Mike is survived by his wife of nearly forty years – Karen Mikulich of Norton Shores; daughters – Stephanie Mikulich of New York, NY and Meredith (James) Hodges of Muskegon, MI; brother – Dennis (Deanna) Gamelin of Munising; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents Charles and Beatrice.

Visitation will be on Sunday, June 16, 2019 at the Bowerman Funeral Home from 5:00 until 8:00 p.m. with a parish vigil service beginning at 7:00 p.m. Fr. Chris Gardiner will conduct Mike’s funeral on Monday, June 17, 2019 at Sacred Heart Church in Munising at 11:00 a.m. His obituary and online guestbook may be viewed and signed at bowermanfuneralhome.net.
