Jim David Eklund

MUNISING, MI – Jim David Eklund, age 77, passed away June 25, 2019 at Upper Peninsula Health System – Marquette.

He was born in his home in Munising on November 3, 1941 and graduated from Mather High School in 1959. Jim worked for the Forest Service and held various other jobs including plumber’s helper and sawmill operator.

He served in the US Army from1963 to 1965. Stationed in White Sands, New Mexico and Okinawa, Japan, he and was honorably discharged.

He was married to Sharon Johnson in September 1964 and later divorced. They had two children, Jana Gibbs (Eklund) and Joseph Eklund. Jim was employed with Kimberly Clark from 1969 to 1999, mostly in the machine room. He was proud of the work he did.

He had many interests including hunting, shooting, scuba diving, playing the guitar, and cruising in the woods. He was a ham radio operator.

He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Joe and Tammy Eklund (Carlson), daughter and son-in-law, Jana Gibbs (Eklund) and Anthony Gibbs; grandchildren, Teddy Gibbs, Melanie Gibbs, and Andy Gibbs; nephews, Jim Eklund, Roy Eklund, and Paul Eklund.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Roy and Rose (Johns) Eklund; and his brother, Roy Eklund.

Graveside services, with veterans honors, will be held at the Maple Grove Cemetery, Munising, on Tuesday, July 2, at 10:00 am. A reception will follow at the Wesleyan Church in Munising.
