Charles ‘Bobby’ Robert Larson

ISHPEMING, MI – Charles (Bobby) Robert Larson, 88, of Ishpeming, loving husband, father and grandfather, passed away peacefully at home on Wednesday, June 26 following a brief battle with cancer.

Charlie was born at home in Suomi Location, Richmond Township, on January 5, 1931 to John and Sanna (Korpi) Larson.

He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Joyce Marie Savala; Children: Debra (James) Lamb, Duane (Patty) Larson, and Charles (Cindy) Larson; Grandchildren: Christopher Lamb, Charles (Shawn) Lamb, Kelsi Lamb, Danielle (Steve) Warner, Krysten (Javier) Saucedo, Baylee Larson, Jessica (Brad) Winchester and Brett Garrett; Sister: Virginia Paulson, sister-in-law Margaret Larson, sixteen great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents, grandson Jason Larson, sister Florence Miljour, and brothers Edwin, Eugene and John Larson.

Charlie was an active member of Bethel Lutheran Church where he served on the Church Council, and the Building and Property Committee. A graduate of Negaunee High School, he served in the United States Air Force during the Korean War and was a member of American Legion Post 114.

He worked for Cleveland Cliffs for 42 years and enjoyed 28 years of retirement. He was a diehard Detroit Tiger and Lions fan. A man of many talents, especially when it came to designing and building homes. Charlie was a perfectionist who did everything when constructing a home – drawing the blueprint, operating the heavy equipment, framing, electrical, plumbing, roofing, landscaping, etc. with his wife, Joyce, by his side who did the staining, varnishing, painting and decorating.

He coached Little League baseball during his sons’ childhoods. He enjoyed bowling, deer hunting, and daily Yahtzee games with his wife. Golf became a passion when he started playing the game at the age of 62.

Charlie’s family will greet relatives and friends from 3:00 – 4:00 pm on Tuesday, July 2, 2019 at the Bethel Lutheran Church in Ishpeming where a memorial service will be held at 4:00 pm with Rev. Lauri O. Maki officiating. Interment will take place at Northland Chapel Gardens.

A luncheon will immediately follow the service in the church fellowship hall.

Military Honors will be accorded by the U.S. Air Force.
