William J. Albrecht

MARQUETTE, MI – William James Albrecht, 92, of Marquette, died peacefully Wednesday evening, May 22, 2019 at his home, surrounded by family and under the care of UP Home Health & Hospice.

Bill was born on January 29, 1927 in Algoma, Wisconsin to the late William and Cora (Umberham) Albrecht. He graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Stout with a Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Arts, later receiving a Master’s degree in Education from the same institution.

Bill previously taught the Three Lakes, Wisconsin school system and also at Marquette Senior High School in the Industrial Arts and Science Departments for many years. He was a former downhill ski coach while at MSHS.

Much of Bill’s retirement was spent training for and finishing Ironman World championship races in Kona Hawaii. His other interests included gardening and growing orchids. He was a bird enthusiast and a lover of nature. His winter sports interests included cross country ski racing in which he participated locally and abroad. Bill was also an avid reader and knowledgeable in topics too numerous to mention.

Survivors include his wife, the former Veryl Sneen Albrecht of Marquette; three children, Kurt (Leslie) Albrecht of Marquette, Dana (Jackie) Albrecht of Duluth, MN and Kristin (George Works) Albrecht of Charlotte, NC; six grandchildren; also one brother, Jeff (Mary) Albrecht of Silver Lake, WI.

Preceding him in death besides his parents were one sister and a brother.

Bill was a member of Redeemer Lutheran Church and his funeral service will be held on Thursday, May 30th at 12 Noon at Redeemer Lutheran Church with the Rev. Chad Ott officiating.

The Albrecht family will greet relatives and friends prior to the service at Redeemer beginning at 10:30 a.m. Burial will take place in the Park Cemetery and Bill’s grandchildren will act as his escorts.
