Shirley Marcotte

NEGAUNEE, MI – Shirley Jean (Jandron) Marcotte, 90, of Croix Street, Negaunee passed away peacefully Saturday afternoon May 4, 2019 at home in her favorite chair with her loving daughter at her side.

Shirley was born November 9, 1928 in Ishpeming, the youngest child of George and Nell (Sullivan) Jandron. She grew up in North Lake location, where she enjoyed love, laughter and song with her tight-knit circle of family and friends. She graduated from Ishpeming High School, Class of 1946. Following graduation, she became a “Gossard Girl”, forming friendships that lasted for many years.

Shirley married Robert Marcotte on October 17, 1953 at St. Paul Church, Negaunee and they began their life together. They enjoyed dancing, playing cards, going for rides and visiting with family and friends. Following the birth of their first child, Shirley became a full-time stay-at-home mom and made caring for her family her top priority. She became a wonderful cook and loved to bake, especially bars. She was a Negaunee Miner and Ishpeming Hematite fan, enjoying following not only her children’s activities, but those of her many nieces and nephews. She loved being their “Aunty Shirley” and took great pleasure in seeing their many accomplishments. Shirley loved ice cream and in her later years had a nightly ice cream “treat”. She lived her faith, following the tenets described in the prayer of St. Francis: Lord, make me be an instrument of your peace, where there is hatred let me sow love, where there is injury, pardon, where there is doubt, faith, where there is despair, hope, where there is darkness, light, and where there is sadness, joy. Oh Divine Master, grant that I may not so much seek to be consoled as to console, to be understood as to understand, to be loved as to love. For it is in giving that we receive, it is in pardoning that we are pardoned, and it is in dying that we are born to eternal life.

Shirley will be remembered for her kindness and generosity and was a true blessing to all who knew her.

Mrs. Marcotte was a member of St. Paul Catholic Church, Negaunee and a life member in the Auxiliary to V.A. Romo, Post #3165 Negaunee VFW.

Surviving are her daughter, Barbara Marcotte of Negaunee; son, Terry (Lily) Marcotte of Baraga and their children, Lexie, Xack and Xavier; and many loving nieces and nephews.
