ISHPEMING, MI – Raymond O. Anderson, age 82, of 29902 Co Rd 581, passed away on Friday, April 5, 2019 at the Marquette Co. Medical Care Facility in Ishpeming due to complications of Alzheimer’s disease. He had been under the loving care of his family, staff members at MCMCF and the Upper Peninsula Home Health and Hospice.

Ray was born June 24, 1936 in Ishpeming the son of the late Otto and Andrea (Johnson) Anderson. He was raised south of Ishpeming in Green Creek location, where he lived his whole life. Ray grew up with his brothers, Bob and Louie Anderson and his favorite cousin Dave “Chicken” Anderson. As a young boy he spent most of his time working which was play for him.

Ray graduated from National Mine in 1954 and married his high school sweetheart Judith Pietro on July 6, 1957. He cut the logs and built their home on the property that his grandfather homestead in 1897 next to his parent’s home.

Ray was a worker. As a young man he worked at Olson News, at Hebbard’s Garage, delivered milk for Asland’s Dairy. He served in the National Guard for 6 years. He then began his career with the Upper Peninsula Power Company until he retired in 1988. As his “side job”, he owned and operated his excavating business until he retired in 1999. Ray would always do his best work and believed in giving everyone a fair price. Ray enjoyed his Tuesday nights spent bowling. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and the Ishpeming Elks Club. Ray was proud of his family and attended all his children’s and then more importantly all his grandchildren’s activities and events and was an avid supporter of the Westwood Patriots.

Ray will be remembered as a very generous husband, father and friend. Ray and Judy who resides in Green Creek Loc. raised 3 children, Michael (Sandy Krellwitz) Anderson, Alan (Lori Basil) Anderson and Kathleen (Dan) Carlson all of whom still resided in Green Creek Loc. He is grandfather to Raymond and Rachel Anderson, Megan Anderson and Anthony & Rocco Carlson.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Otto and Andrea, and his in-laws, Mike and Lempi (Aho) Pietro.

The family will greet relatives and friends from 4:30 PM – 7:00 PM on Tuesday, April 9, 2019 at the St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 7:00 PM on Tuesday at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church with Fr. Ryan Ford to officiate. A dessert luncheon will follow in the K/D Hall.
