Dale R. ‘Snelbert’ Helsten

Dale Helsten

NATIONAL MINE, MI – Dale R. “Snelbert” Helsten, age 66, longtime National Mine resident passed away Friday April 26, 2019 at his home.

Dale was born in Ishpeming, Michigan on March 27, 1953, a son of the late Hazel (Seablom) and William Arthur Helsten. He graduated from National Mine High School, class of 1972.

Dale worked for Cleveland Cliffs Iron Company for 36 years, retiring as a Pit Boss. He was a member of Faith Lutheran Church.

Dale was a former board member of Tilden Township, he enjoyed spending time with family and friends especially at the family camp. Some of his hobbies include fishing, hunting, tinkering, and was an avid Green Bay Packer fan.

Dale is survived by six sons David (Justina) Helsten, of New London, WI; Shawn (Tina) Helsten, of Ishpeming, Brian Helsten, of Ishpeming, Wayne (Danielle) Helsten, of Ishpeming, Robert (Janet) Helsten, of National Mine, and Billy Helsten, of Ishpeming, grandchildren: Brent, Michael, Derek, Kalli Mattson, Carter, Griffin, Hallie, Ayden, Jackson, Delaney, Harmony, Mariah, Dylan, Dillon Tilly, EmmaLee, and Beau Helsten along with nieces and nephews; Susan, Johnny, Brad, and Carissa.

Dale was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Sherrie, and a brother Ray Helsten.

Dale’s family will greet relatives and friends from 3:00-5:00 PM on Wednesday May 1, 2019 at Faith Lutheran Church, Co. Rd. 581 Ishpeming, where a Memorial Service will be held at 5:00 PM with Rev. Stacy Pethke officiating.

A luncheon will follow in the church fellowship hall.
