Michael L. Borske

GWINN, MI – Michael L. Borske, 65, of Gwinn, passed away on Saturday, January 12, 2019 at the Norlite Nursing Center in Marquette.

Michael was born on June 8, 1953 in Chicago, Illinois to the late Leonard and Lois (Sawick) Borske. He was a graduate of Marquette Senior High School.

Michael married Catherine Olmsted in 1999 at the Presque Isle Pavilion.

He worked for Cleveland Cliffs in various capacities and at Gander Mountain. Michael was an avid hunter and outdoorsman, a competitive shooter and had achieved a Master ranking NRA high power classification. He also enjoyed cross country skiing and fishing. He took pride in raising five generations of Brittany bird dogs as well as running “Ampa” Daycare for his grandchildren. Michael was instrumental in establishing the Dog Therapy program in 1998 at Marquette General Hospital. He was a member of the Negaunee Rod and Gun Club and the Commemorative Bucks of Michigan.

Michael is survived by his wife, Cathy “Cat” Olmsted of Gwinn; children, Sarah (Thomas) Katona of Gwinn and Ben Borske of Lebanon, TN; grandchildren, Cate and Teddy Katona, and Autumn and Derrick Borske; mother-in-law, Margaret Olmsted; brothers-in-law, Timothy, David, Mark and Bruce and their families; nephews, Matthew and Adam; niece, Erin; and many extended family members and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Leonard and Lois Borske, and his sister, Susan McLeod.

Visitation will be held on Friday, January 18th at the Canale Gwinn Funeral Home from 3:30 p.m. until 5:30 p.m. A memorial service will be held at 5:30 p.m. in the funeral home with Rev. Leon Jarvis officiating. An additional celebration of Michael’s life will take place at a future date to be announced.
