ISHPEMING, MI – Dr. Bruce R. Turino, 68, returned to the Lord on Saturday morning, January 12, 2019, at the Teal Lake Assisted Living Facility, under the loving care of family, nursing staff, and U.P. Home Health and Hospice, after a 1 year battle with cancer. He had resided there for 1 day. Prior to that, he resided at 475 S. Westwood Dr. in Ishpeming.

Bruce was born on February 9, 1950, in Marquette, MI, to Robert W. and Helen (Koskinen) Turino. He was a 1968 graduate of Ishpeming High School, attended Northern Michigan University, and after 4 years of service in the U.S. Navy as a hospital corpsman, returned home where he again attended N.M.U and worked as an orderly at Bell Hospital in Ishpeming, He and his wife Mary then moved to Davenport, Iowa, where he attended Palmer College of Chiropractic, graduating in June of 1978 with both a B.S. and a Doctor of Chiropractic Degree.

Following graduation he and Mary returned to Ishpeming where he joined his father, Dr. Robert W. Turino in practice, and following his fathers’ retirement, remained in practice there for 37 years until his own retirement. Bruce loved his staff and patients and was a very dedicated Chiropractor.

Bruce and Mary are parents of two children, Dr. Brandon (Mercedes) Turino of Marquette, and Hayley (Luke) Chapman, also of Marquette.

They are grandparents to three, Shiloh and Esme Turino, and Laney Chapman.

Bruce was a member of St. Joseph Catholic church, where he served as a prior Parish Council President. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus, and the Holy Name Society at St. Joseph Church.

Bruce was a past president of the U.P. Chiropractic Association, District representative of the Michigan Chiropractic Association for many years, and was very active locally in the promotion of the Chiropractic profession.

Among his many civic involvements, Bruce was a past president of the Ishpeming noontime Kiwanis, a past president of Ishpeming Chamber of Commerce, a Cub and Boy Scout leader, served as a board member of the Dead River Campers Association, and through his practice, a huge supporter of the TV 6 Help Feed a Hungry Neighbor program.

Bruce loved spending time at his camp on the Dead River Basin and enjoyed boating and the many outdoor chores and activities associated with the camp. You might see him and his beloved dog Maggie cruising along in the boat and waving to other boaters. His pet projects that involved the camp were starting and promoting the annual fireworks on the Basin which occurs on the evening of the annual DRCA meeting, and working to see that the camp road was in good condition.

Bruce was always involved with his high school class reunion planning sessions, making sure that the reunions would take place.

Bruce is survived by Mary, his loving wife of 47 years, his two children, three grandchildren, his siblings Carey E. Gary of Plymouth, Mi., Dr. Timothy C (Karen) Turino of Madison, WI., Kathryn E (Steve) Ketcham of Ishpeming, Joel D. (Julieanne) Turino of Viroqua, WI. Brother in laws, John R (Kathy). Downs, Jr. and Kevin J. Downs both of Marquette, and Daniel K (Laurie) Downs of Helendale, California. He is also survived by aunts, uncles, many cousins, nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Dr Robert and Helen Turino, his father in law John R. Downs, Sr. and mother in law, Muriel E. Downs, and two nephews, Robert Clark Turino and Jeffrey Ketcham, brother in law Jon W. Gary, along with several aunts, uncles and cousins.

Family and friends may call at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Ishpeming on Friday, January 18, 2019 from 10 am until noon. A Mass of Christian Burial will be Celebrated at noon by Rev. Ryan Ford and Rev. Daniel Moll. A luncheon will follow in the parish hall.

Military honors will be accorded by the Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter 380.
