Virginia S. Sarka

HARVEY, MI – Virginia S. Sarka, age 75, of Harvey, and longtime Marquette area resident, entered eternal life Monday, October 1, 2018, at the Norlite Nursing Center.

Virginia was born September 1, 1943 in Chelsea, Massachusetts, a daughter of George Palmer and Caronal M. (Stowe) Hulbert. Her father was serving in the US Navy and she was primarily raised in Portsmouth, Virginia,, and at other duty stations where he was assigned. On August 3, 1963, Virginia married Wayne S. Sarka in Elizabeth City, North Carolina, and the couple moved to Marquette following Wayne’s military service. Virginia worked for a few years at the Coachlight Restaurant and did some volunteering with the Salvation Army. A homemaker, she enjoyed bingo, checkers, some gambling at the casino, loved to drive her car, was an avid rummage sale shopper, and loved visiting with friends.

Virginia is survived by her daughter, Cheryl Lynn Koeller of Gettysburg, OH; sons, Kenneth Joseph (Abbey Whisnant) Sarka of North Carolina, and Michael Lee Sarka of Sturgeon Bay, WI; her grandchildren, Erin Nicole Sarka, Kyle Patrick Sarka, Ryan Lynn Koeller, Brianna Leigh Roper, Jodienne Marie Secchiaroli, Donna Marie Sarka, Brian Lee Silverthorn, and Tommy Sarka; great-grandchildren, Liliana Secchiaroli, Nicholas Roper, Jackson Roper, Lilah Roper, and Matthew Woodruff; her brothers, William Rand Hulbert of Norfolk, VA and George Palmer (Barbara) Hulbert III of Virginia; many nieces and nephews; and special friend, Peggy Leach of Harvey.

In addition to her parents, Virginia was preceded in death by her husband, Wayne in 2009; her sisters, Doris Anne and Susan Elizabeth; and a brother, Thomas Allen Hulbert.

Graveside services will be held at the Holy Cross Cemetery on Saturday, October 13, at 1:00 pm.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the Norlite Nursing Center Activity Fund, 701 Homestead Street, Marquette, MI 49855.
