ISHPEMING, MI – Pauline H. Hilska, age 85, longtime Ishpeming Twp. resident passed away on Saturday, September 29, 2018 at the Marquette Co. Medical Care Facility in Ishpeming where she had been a resident since July of 2017.

Pauline was born April 30, 1933 in Ishpeming, the daughter of the late Waino and Helen (Hanhimaki) Forslund. Pauline grew up in Ishpeming and was a graduate of the Ishpeming High School, Class of 1951. Following High School, she lived and worked in New York City, with her two high school friends. There in New York; Pauline met the love of her life, Paavo Hilska at the Finn Hall located in downtown Harlem. They returned to the Ishpeming area where they were united in marriage, and resided since. Pauline and Paavo were married for 60 years. Pauline worked for the Peninsula Bank in Ishpeming for 36 years, the first ten at the main office and then for 26 years as branch manager, in Ishpeming Twp.

Pauline was an active member of the Bethel Lutheran Church throughout her lifetime. She enjoyed volunteering, gardening, sewing, knitting, baking and making Christmas crafts. Pauline was also an Easter bunny to a few fortunate kids, whose parents did not understand the American way of holidays. In their retirement years, Pauline and Paavo wintered in Lake Worth, FL for 25 years.

Pauline is survived by special loved ones Eva, Tina and Elie of Montreal, Canada, and special friends Diane, Derek and Doug Collar of Ishpeming.

A Graveside Service will be held at the Negaunee Cemetery at 1:00pm on Wednesday, Oct. 10, 2018 with the Rev. Lauri O. Maki to officiate.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Bethel Lutheran Church Memor- ial Fund in Pauline’s memory.
