Douglas C. Magnuson

ISHPEMING, MI – Douglas C. Magnuson, age 86, of 465 Co Rd PBH, Ishpeming passed away on Saturday, September 29, 2018 at U P Health System Marquette where he had been a patient for the past day.

Doug was born February 10, 1932 in Ishpeming the son of the late Edward and Viana (Havelin) Magnuson. He grew up in the National Mine area and was a graduate of the National Mine High School, Class of 1950. Doug’s working career began in Ishpeming with the Cleveland Cliffs Iron Co. He went on to work for the Jones and Laughlin Co. at the Tracy Mine and returned to CCI, working as a Pit Mechanic at the Republic Mine until its closure and then the Tilden and Empire Mines prior to his retirement in 1991.

Doug was a lifelong and active member of the Faith Lutheran Church. He will be remembered for his tinkering especially with his heavy equipment and his hard-working nature, which included his love of the outdoors and logging in his younger years along with his building skills which were put to work when he built his two homes and his camp. Doug enjoyed antique cars and listening to classical music.

Survivors include his daughter Kathy (Bill) Mathias of Ishpeming, son Steve (Terri) Magnuson of Lakewood, CO, grandchildren – Jennifer (Shawn) Mathias- Hodgins, Casey and Krista Magnuson, his brother-in-law and sister- in-law – Clarence “Bucky” and Alice Johnson of Ishpeming, along with many special nieces and nephews.

Doug was preceded in death by his wife Jean Magnuson in 1998, grandson Eric Mathias on Jan. 11, 2018, and sister Marjorie Fassben- der in 2011.

The family will greet relatives and friends from 10:00am till Noon on Wednesday, October 3, 2018 at Faith Lutheran Church. Funeral service will follow at Noon on Wednesday at Faith Lutheran Church with the Rev. Stacy Pethke to officiate. Interment will take place at the Ishpeming Cemetery. A luncheon will follow the service in the church hall.

Pallbearers will be Bill Mathias, Shawn Hodgins, Jeff Johnson, Dean, Gary and Randy Annala.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Faith Lutheran Church – Building Fund, 180 Co Rd PPO, Ishpeming, MI 49849.
