In her spare time, she enjoyed bowling with her best friend, Joyce Trubell, playing BINGO and watching the deer from her back window with her feline companion, Peewee. Carol was also a very gifted cook, and was an especially gifted baker. She loved the holidays, specifically Thanksgiving and Christmas.

Surviving are her two sons, Edwin (Heidi Schuls) Holmes and John Mathews; adopted son, Jesse (Bobbie Jo) McGraw; longtime companion of 40 years, Rodney ‘Rod’ Laituri; five grandchildren: Robert, Isabel, Allan, Donna and Brandon; adopted granddaughter, Robbin (Bil Kevern) Elvetici; brother, Bob Holmes; a sister, Darlene; and a sister-in- law, Colleen Depotty.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a daughter, Jeannette Mathews; granddaughter, Phyllis Jeannette Mathews; and a brother, Harry Holmes.

A Celebration of Life will be held from 11:00 am until 1:00 pm on Monday, September 17th at Koskey Funeral Home. Burial will be in Northland Chapel Gardens.

The family will also greet relatives and friends for a pot luck style luncheon at the Eastwood Apostolic Lutheran Church, Negaunee, immediately following graveside services.

A limb has fallen from the family tree, I keep hearing a voice say, “grieve not for me.”

Remember the best times, the laughs, the songs, the good life I lived when I was strong.

My mind is at ease, my soul is at rest, remember all, I was truly blessed.

Don’t cry for me here, although I’ll miss you dear.
