Mary Ann Frantom

MARQUETTE, MI – Mary Ann Frantom lost her battle with cancer on August 4, 2018. Those that were part of Mary Ann’s life, knew how blessed they were. She will be remembered as one of the kindest, most creative and giving person you were lucky enough to know.

Mary Ann was born on May 9, 1944, in Marquette, MI to Mary and Francis Hetherington. She attended Sexton High School, Northern Michigan University and later married John Frantom. They celebrated 51 years together.

We are comforted in knowing Mary Ann is reunited with her only son Andrew, who preceded her in death in 2015.

Surviving to cherish her memory are her husband John; very special friends, Larry & Sheila Sykora; grandchildren Kayley (Nick) Ralph and Zack (Kayla) Frantom; great grandchildren Natalie, Wyatt, Andrew, Elaina, and Olivia; daughter-in-law Shelley Frantom, brother Gary (Phyllis) Hetherington; several cousins, nieces, nephews, and many friends.

Mary Ann was a devoted teacher at Carrollton Public Schools until 2002. She continued her involvement with the schools long after her retirement.

Mary Ann was a gifted crafter who shared her love of Elvis, knitting, stitching, gardening, cooking, and creating with anyone interested in learning. She was happy to quietly watch the thrill of others enjoying her detailed planning and implementation of family events from jungle breakfast, group art projects, holiday themed meals, and fairy parties.

Mary Ann loved her grandchildren, her friends in the Saginaw and Marquette knitting clubs, the U.P., Lake Superior, hot dogs and flip flops (no matter what the weather).

The family wishes to thank U.P. Home Health and Hospice, and Larry and Sheila for their unwavering loving care and support throughout Mary Ann’s illness.

Donations in Mary Ann’s memory can be made to JJ Packs, 611 N. Front Street, Marquette, MI 49855. JJ Packs distributes food to school children in need.

In keeping with Mary Ann’s wishes, a private memorial service will be held at a later date.
