MARQUETTE, MI – Bethene E. Robinson, 90, of Marquette, passed away Thursday morning, July 12, 2018 at the Norlite Nursing Center under the care of Lake Superior Life Care and Hospice.

Bethene was born on May 8, 1928 in Casey, Iowa, a daughter of the late Walter and Pearl (Smithson) Siedelmann. She and her family had resided in Marquette since 1976.

Bethene was known as the “mug rug lady.” She crocheted over 1000 of them and graciously donated them to senior citizen centers, doctors’ offices, assisted living facilities and nursing homes.

Bethene was previously employed as a teacher’s aide and secretary at the former Parkview Elementary School in Marquette. She was an accomplished organist and pianist, loved spending time visiting with her neighbors and baking cookies for them.

Survivors include one brother, Dean (Mary Ann) Siedelmann of Indiana; four nieces, Connie (Steven) Lee and Barbara (Jon) Dahlstrom, both of Indiana, Judith (Stephen) Laker and Jayne A. Robinson, both of Illinois; three nephews, Scott (Charlotte) Siedelmann of Indiana, Melvin Robinson of Illinois and Jerry Robinson of Arkansas. Preceding her in death besides her parents was her husband, Wilbur “Rob” Robinson; her son, Rand Robinson; a brother, Edwin Siedelmann and her last two loves, her canine companions, Ranier and Jamie.

A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, July 18th at 3 p.m. in the Canale-Tonella Funeral Home with the Rev. Charles L. Tooman officiating. The Robinson family will greet relatives and friends beginning at 2 p.m. Wednesday until the time of the service in the funeral home.
