Loretta Ruth Jarvis

MARQUETTE, MI – Loretta Ruth Jarvis, age 75, of Marquette, entered eternal life March 11, 2018, at the home of her daughter in Lansing.

Loretta was born May 27, 1943, in Munising, a daughter of John and Stella (Pousant) Henning. Raised on the family farm near Traunik, Loretta very early in life learned the value of daily work and developed a strong work ethic. She later moved to Marquette and was employed at the former Morgan Heights Sanitarium on County Road 492. Prior to her marriage to Arvo Jarvis on October 1, 1966, and then for a time thereafter, Loretta was a caregiver-nanny to several children. Following their marriage, Arvo and Loretta made their home in Marquette where they raised their own family. In her leisure, Loretta was an avid and diehard NMU hockey and Detroit Red Wings hockey fan. She never missed a NMU game, whether in person or listening on the radio. She also enjoyed looking at and collecting jewelry. Loretta was one of the original members of the Marquette Gospel Tabernacle, now Water’s Edge Church.

A loving mother, grandmother, and sister, Loretta is survived by her children, Mike Jarvis and Wayne Jarvis of Marquette, twin daughters, Melinda Darrow of Lansing and Julia (Brian) Ayotte of Detroit; her loving grandchildren, Darcey, Michelle, Karly, and Jacey; brothers, Jim Henning and Fred (Brenda) Henning both of Gladstone, Don (Agnes) Henning and Keith (Glenda) Henning both of Manistique, Bill (Sue) Henning of Raleigh, NC, and Mike Henning of Wilmington, NC; many nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Loretta was preceded in death by her husband, Arvo, in 2001; a son, Ronald Jarvis in 1995; her sister, Dorothy (the late Pete) Pietila; and a brother, Roger (the late Carol) Henning.

An informal Celebration of Life, commemorating Loretta’s life, and also remembering Arvo and Ronald, will be held at the Presque Isle Gazebo on Saturday, July 14, at 10:00 am.
