Robert W. Olds

ISHPEMING, MI – Robert W. Olds, age 92, went to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Tuesday, June 5, 2018 surrounded by his family.

Bob was born March 15, 1926 in Ishpeming to Russell W. and Allison (Crisp) Olds. He graduated from Ishpeming High School and then joined the Army in April 1944. He served in the European Theater during World War II where he was wounded in Germany and received a Purple Heart.

Bob returned home and attended business college and worked for Nylunds Hardware for two years, he then found employment with Cleveland Cliffs Iron Co at Cliffs Shaft, then the Main Office and finally as a Lead Technician at CCI’s Research Laboratory. He enjoyed 38 years of retirement.

On June 18, 1949 he married the love of his life, Theresa Hanninen and together they raised three children.

Bob enjoyed many hobbies and past times including woodcarving, photography, the Detroit Tigers, bowling, horseshoes, and he loved to play cribbage. He also had many musical talents and played the accordion, guitar, piano, and french horn. Most of all he loved spending time with his family at his camp that he and his father built on the Dead River.

Bob is survived by three children, Barbara (Mike) Coughlin of Green Bay, Raymond (Ann) Olds of Ishpeming, and Ann Marie (Roger) Blau of Green Bay. He has 9 grandchildren, David (Cheryl) Coughlin, Jeff (Stacey) Coughlin, Sarah (Gabe) Ryan, Katie Olds, Russell (Katie) Olds, Chelsea (Andy) Godin, Maggie Blau, Bobbi (Phil Giese) Blau and Josh (Bri Gottfried) Blau. He also has 13 great grandchildren, along with several nieces and nephews.

Bob was preceded in death by his parents and his wife Theresa.

Funeral services for Bob will be held 11:00 am Friday June 8, 2018 at the Bethel Lutheran Church in Ishpeming with Rev. Lauri O. Maki officiating.

Bob’s family will greet relatives and friends on Friday June 8th at the Bethel Lutheran Church from 9:30am until the time of service at 11:00 am.

Interment will take place in the Ishpeming Cemetery where Military Honors will be accorded by the U.P. Funeral Honors Team.

Pallbearers will be Bob’s grandchildren.
