Kathleen Murto

GREEN BAY, WI – Kathleen Annette “Kay” Murto, 85, of Green Bay, passed away peacefully in her sleep to the welcoming arms of her dear Lord and Savior on June 10, 2018.

Kathleen was born on Oct. 14, 1932, in Marquette, MI, to Agnes and Emil Bergstrom. She graduated from Graveraet High School, Northern Michigan University and then received her masters degree from the University of Michigan. She met the love of her life, Raymond “Bud” Murto, at the Palestra Ice Rink. They later married on August 19,1956.

Kathleen and Raymond moved to Green Bay in 1967 and became members of Ascension Lutheran Church, where she was devoted to serving her Lord. Kay especially loved teaching Sunday School. She was a librarian for the Green Bay Public School System, reading to and assisting children with research and learning skills, from 1966 until her retirement. On Saturdays she was singing “Hail, Hail to Michigan” and on Sundays chanting “Go Pack Go”! While Kay loved to ice skate, she also bowled and played baseball and tennis.

Kathleen was known for her boundless compassion – sharing her time and talents over the years with many organizations. She was a longtime member of Delta Kappa Gamma. She was a passionate reader who also enjoyed a good glass of wine with popcorn while doing crossword puzzles. She cherished family gatherings, especially Christmas. And she never could go without dessert!

Kay will be deeply missed by her son, Mark Murto and four daughters, Karen Murto (significant other Todd Gill), Amy (Todd) Anderson, Bonny Murto and Kristen J. Murto (significant other Steve Butnick). Her surviving grandchildren include Matthew Hobbins (Madeleine Radtke), Brett Hobbins (Meghan Foulkes) and Lexie Anderson; Reijo Murto and Kendall Allmaras and Leah Yates; Ryan Fournier and Isaac Fournier. She was blessed with three beautiful great-grandchildren: Miles Hobbins, Leo Hobbins, and Jackson Hobbins. Kay also leaves behind a beloved sister and brother Nancy (Raymond) Cayemberg and Charlie Bergstrom; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Eleanor Bergstrom, Barbara Bergstrom, Steve Murto, Bob and Alice Murto, John and Mary Hultquist; and has numerous cherished nieces and nephews and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents and siblings: Grace, Ralph, Russ, Don, Floyd, Judy and Jimmy.
