Renee Saari

MICHIGAMME, MI – Renee M. Saari, age 74, longtime Michigamme resident, passed away on Friday, May 25, 2018 at Maryhill Manor in Niagara, WI where she had been a resident for the past 6 months, prior to that she had been residing with her son Kevin in Iron Mountain.

Renee was born August 9, 1943 in Marquette, MI the daughter of the late Ronald and Della (McGinnis) Dishnow. Renee was a graduate of the Champion High School, Class of 1961, and then attended Beauty School in Marquette. Although Renee never worked in a beauty salon, she used her skills to cut many family and friends hair. She married the late Charles “Stewie” Saari on January 9, 1965 at the St. Agnes Catholic Church in Michigamme, and together they raised two sons, Kevin and Ron. In 1966 she began her career with the U.S. Postal Service first as a clerk, eventually moving up to be Post Master at the Michigamme Post Office from November of 1989 until her retirement on July 1, 1999.

Renee was a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church. She was active in the Michigamme Community, most notably the Michigamme Museum and the chronicling of the graves at the Lakeview Cemetery where she set a goal of having all of the graves of past burials marked. Renee could be counted on to research local family genealogy when she was asked and took a detective’s approach to this task. She had served on the 4th of July and the Park committees.

Survivors include her sons: Kevin (Rachel) Saari of Iron Mountain and Ron (Tanya) Saari of Potosi, WI; sister Colleen (Howard) Malloy of Puyallup, WA; 10 grandchildren: Nicholas and Jacob Saari of Iron Mountain, John, Tony and Wesley Saari of Potosi, WI; Tom Kelley of Okinawa, Japan; Sydney Kelley of Potosi, WI; Ronald Saari Jr. of Milwaukee, WI; Alyssa Saari of Marquette, MI and Hailee Saari of Mount Pleasant, MI; 2 great grandchildren: Addison and Ashlyan Saari of Marquette, along with several aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband Charles Stewart “Stewie” Saari in 1995 along with her parents.

The Saari family will greet relatives and friends from 11:00am – 12:00pm on Wednesday, May 30, 2017 at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Champion, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Noon on Wednesday with the Rev. Fr. Dan Moll to officiate. A luncheon will follow in the church hall. Interment will take place at the Lakeview Cemetery in Michigamme.

Pallbearers will be Kevin, Ron, Nicholas and Jacob Saari, Mike Hosey and William Seppanen.
