Shirley Taccolini

MARQUETTE, MI – Shirley Ann (Aho) Taccolini, age 84, passed away peacefully at U.P. Health System-Marquette Comfort Care on Sunday, April 8th, surrounded by her loving family.

Shirley was born in Marquette, Michigan on September 30, 1933, the daughter of Charles and Leona (Dupras) Aho. She attended Bishop Baraga School, graduating in 1951. She married Louis Frank Taccolini on July 23, 1955, in Saint Peter’s Cathedral. Shirley loved her family, friends and home. She enjoyed cooking, gardening and crafts. She always welcomed visitors, friends and children to her home, treating them to her delicious meals and hospitality.

Shirley and her family traveled extensively throughout the United States, Canada and Europe: tenting, hiking and exploring. She and Louis visited Europe eight times, hiking with her immediate family in 1980, enjoying the countryside and visiting friends and relatives. Other family members accompanied them throughout Europe over the years. In 2005 they renewed their wedding vows and celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in a mountainside monastery in the northern Alps of Lovere, Italy (Province Bergamo). Hundreds of relatives and friends celebrated their life.

Survivors include her loving husband of 62 years, Louis; three daughters, Diane (David) Salko of Fort Myers, FL, Gina (Lee) Lindberg of Fort Myers, FL, Natale Taccolini Zerbel of Marquette, MI; three grandchildren, Nadia Lindberg, Jeffrey (Miranda) Lindberg, Alex Zerbel; also one sister, MaryLou Tiziani of Marquette, MI. She enjoyed spending time with her many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Leona Aho; two brothers, Charles and James Aho, and two sisters, Elizabeth Balbierz and Jean Lindley.

A private graveside service will take place at the Park Cemetery. In lieu of flowers the family kindly asks that any contributions in Shirley’s memory be directed to Peter White Public Library, Children’s library, 217 North Front Street, Marquette, MI, 49855.
