NEW RICHMOND, WI – Robert J. “Bob” Kessel, 70, of New Richmond, Wisconsin, formerly of Marquette, died unexpectedly on Monday, March 19, 2018 in New Richmond.

Bob was born on October 24, 1947 in Escanaba, a son of the late William and Hilda (Haas) Kessel and was a graduate of Bishop Baraga High School in Marquette. He had also attended Northern Michigan University.

He proudly served his country with the U.S. Navy for four years.

Bob was employed in maintenance and also as a mechanic for Cem Stone in Minneapolis for over 30 years. In his free time, Bob enjoyed following Red Wing and NMU hockey, the Green Bay Packers, was a freelance wildlife photographer, and world traveler. He particularly enjoyed going to coffee with the guys twice every day.

Bob is survived by two siblings, Barbara (Ron) Gingras of Marquette and Michael (Alison) Kessel of Sobieski, WI; three nephews, Steven (Trish) Gingras and Brian (Nikki) Gingras, and Jason Kessel; great nieces and nephews, Katie Gingras, Gabby Gingras, Emma Gingras, Sam Gingras, Madeline Kessel and Ella Kessel; also several cousins. Preceding him in death besides his parents was a brother, William E, Kessel.

A celebration of Bob’s life will be held on Saturday, April 14th at 6 p.m. in the Canale-Tonella Funeral Home with Deacon Don Thoren officiating. The family will greet relatives and friends beginning at 5 p.m. Saturday until the time of the service. A luncheon will be served in the funeral home immediately following.
