Nancy M. DeCaire

ISHPEMING, MI – Nancy M. DeCaire, age 67, lifelong Ishpeming area resident entered eternal life on Tuesday, April 17, 2018 while a patient at the Emergency Room at UP Health System Marquette. She had been a resident at the Marquette Co. Medical Care Facility in Ishpeming for nearly a year.

Nancy was born October 27, 1950 in Marquette, MI, the daughter of the late Ernest and Mary (Niemi) DeCaire. She was raised in Ishpeming and was a graduate of the Ishpeming High School, Class of 1968. Nancy went on to further her education at Northern Michigan University where she received her bachelor degree in education in 1972. Nancy enthusiastically taught English and Social Studies for over 30 years at the Ishpeming High School, retiring in 2009, after touching the lives of countless students over the years.

Nancy was an active member of the St. Joseph Catholic Church, where she had been a Lector, served on the Liturgy Committee and taught in the CCD program for many years. She loved volunteering in the Ishpeming Community, especially at the Salvation Army. She was a member of the Friends of the Library, Kiwanis Club, Ishpeming Historical Society, Delta Kappa Gamma.

Survivors include her sister Barbara Ducas; nephews – John (Heidi) Heikkila and Al (Theresa) Harris all of Ishpeming; great nieces – Stephanie and Natalie; along with many cousins. The family will greet relatives and friends from 10:00am – Noon on Friday April 20, 2018 at the St. Joseph Catholic Church in Ishpeming. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Noon on Friday at St. Joseph Catholic Church with the Rev. Fr. Dan Moll to officiate. Interment will take place at the Ishpeming Cemetery. A luncheon will follow the Mass in the church hall.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Ishpeming Historical Society and Museum, 308 Cleveland Ave., Ishpeming, MI 49849 in Nancy’s memory.

Nancy’s family wishes to thank the staff at the Marquette Co. Medical Care Facility for their kind and compassionate care of Nancy this past year, she truly enjoyed her time spent with them.
