Mary Anne (Klassen) Owen

MARQUETTE, MI – Mary Anne (Klassen) Owen, a resident of Marquette since August 1959, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on March, 23, 2018.

Mary was born on March 11, 1935 in Dearborn, Michigan, the daughter of David and Martha (Klein) Klassen. She was raised in the Dearborn area where she graduated from Lowrey High School. She attended Eastern Michigan University receiving a Bachelors Degree in Physical Education and a Masters Degree from Northern Michigan University in 1966. Mary did further graduate work at NMU and the University of Hawaii.

Mrs. Owen taught in the Dearborn Heights, North Lake School, Silver Creek School and Whitman Elementary School until her retirement in 1990.

Mary’s activities included Bible Studies, Sunday School Teacher, VBS, Stephen Ministry, hospital and nursing homes visitations, and other church related activities.

Her hobbies included gardening, wild flowers, hiking, and outdoor activities, all sports, reading, and being with family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, beloved husband, J. Willis “Bill” Owen, her sister, Joyce (Bob) Babits, and brothers, Ralph and John (Virginia) Klassen.

Survivors include a daughter, Tamara Dorony and a son, Stephen Owen both of Marquette; five grandchildren,

Amber Anne Crawford, Jacob (Samantha) Dorony, Katherine Dorony, Krista (Michael) Dorony, and Hannah Dorony; one great-granddaughter, Melana Crawford; Mary is also survived by a brother, Paul (Runell) Klassen of Lakeland, FL and by many dear nieces, nephews and many cherished friends and neighbors.

Friends may call at the Redeemer Lutheran Church on Wednesday, March 28, 2018 from 9:00 am until 11:00 am with a Memorial service held at 11:00 am in the church with Rev. Chad Ott officiating. In lieu of flowers memorials may be directed to Redeemer Lutheran Church, 1700 W. Fair Avenue, Marquette, MI 49855.
