Marie Louise Tiernan

MUNISING, MI – Marie Louise Tiernan, age 95, of Munising, died Sunday, March 4, 2018 at the MediLodge of Munising.

She was born in Munising, Michigan on October 13, 1922 to the late William A. and Ida B. (Sylvester) Cox, Sr. Louise graduated from Wm. G. Mather High School in the class of 1940. She then went to secretarial school in Grand Rapids. After graduation, Louise was employed by Mr. Good Bar in Milwaukee, until she joined the United States Marine Corps. She served for two years at Marine Headquarters in Arlington, Virginia before being honorably discharged as a Staff Sergeant in December of 1945.

Louise married John “Jack” Tiernan on January 26, 1946, and together they raised their four children. She enjoyed bowling, BINGO and shopping. Louise also enjoyed spending her winters with her daughter Janice in Florida. She was a member of the American Legion and Marine Corps League.

Louise’s family would like to thank the staff at Tendercare for the loving care they had provided for the past three years.

Louise is survived by her children – Janice (Richard) Bergantz- Welch of Marco Island, Florida, Bob “Tiny” Tiernan, John (Robin) Tiernan, and Tim (Durae) Tiernan all of Munising; grandchildren – Danielle (Eric) Beverly, Raenelle (Mike) Ealy, Chad (Alyssa) Tiernan, Brad Tiernan, Anthony “A.J.” (Ann Herman) Tiernan, Stacy (Wayne) Brock, Amy (Mark) Hamilla, and Troy (Amanda) Tiernan; step-grandchildren – Tim (Mary) Welch, Paula (Tom) Goodwin, and Tonya Healy; twenty-two great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law – Dorothy Cox, Mildred Tiernan, and Viola Schultz; brother-in-law – Buck Perry; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents – Bill and Ida; husband – Jack; daughter-in-law – Suzette Tiernan; siblings – Ella Mae “Sis” Cox, Ruth Cox, Bill Cox, Jr., Tom (Pat) Cox, Jim (Ruth Ann) Cox, and Harold Cox; brothers and sisters-in-law – Dorothy (Louis) Champine, Colleen Perry, Raymond Schultz, Pete (Emily) Tiernan, Bill (Wanda) Tiernan, and Ted Tiernan.
