Thomas ‘Tom’ Ferrigan

MUNISING, MI – Thomas John Ferrigan, age 77, of Munising and formerly of Morrice, Michigan died Sunday, February 25, 2018 at his home following a lengthy illness.

He was born in Owosso, Michigan on April 24, 1940 to the late Clarence and Doris (Jordan) Ferrigan. Tom grew up in Morrice and graduated from Morrice High School in 1958. He then entered into the U.S. Navy and served for a short time before being medically discharged. Tom then attended and graduated from Michigan State University with a B.A. in Marketing. He owned and operated the Morrice Tin Shop – Heating and Cooling and then worked for the U.S. Postal Service until retiring in 2005 as a Maintenance Engineering Analyst. Tom enjoyed hunting and fishing, and had been coming to the U.P. since 1964. He found a way to hunt it all and was an avid outdoorsman. Tom had a story about all of the places and vegetation he encountered. He also enjoyed hanging with his family and grandchildren. Tom was a good friend to all at the Alec Lake Association and served as their treasurer. He often would help neighbors fix their furnaces, wells, and electrical work around their homes. The neighbors referred to his home as “Tom’s Hardware” and would check there for any parts or tools needed before heading to town.

Tom is survived by his wife – Jean Ferrigan of Munising; children – Julie (Tom) Breece of Dublin, OH, Tony (Melissa) Ferrigan of Morrice, MI, and Angie Ferrigan of Charleston, SC; step-children – Pam (Roger) Smith of Williamston, MI, Scott (Patti) Bell of Fowlerville, MI, and Kelly Bell of Croton, MI; grandchildren – Samuel Breece, Alex Breece, Luke Ferrigan, Travis (Erica) Smith, Margaret (Corey) Woodby, Jordan (Katrina) Smith, Tara Bell, Ryan (Elena) Bell, Tia Johnston, Rebecca Hamilton, Eathan Hamilton; and numerous great-grandchildren; siblings – William (Carol) Ferrigan, Deloris (Cecil) Kesson, Margaret Mahoney; sister-in-law – Marcy Ferrigan.

Tom was preceded in death by his parents and brothers Bob, Jim, and Volois Ferrigan.

Visitation will be held at the Bowerman Funeral Home in Munising on Thursday, March 1, 2018 from 12:00 noon until 3:00 p.m. and also from 5:00 p.m until 8:00 p.m.

Services will begin at 8:00 p.m. with military honors conducted by American Legion and Vietnam Veterans Honor Guard.

Father Chris Gardiner will conclude with prayers in the funeral home’s chapel.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project or Sanctuary of Hope – John Hagee Ministries.
