Robertta ‘Bertie’ Giese

MUNISING, MI – Robertta “Bertie” Giese, age 74, of 218 W. Chocolay Street, Munising, passed away peacefully surrounded by family with song and prayer on Sunday afternoon, February 25, 2018 at U.P. Health System Marquette following a week-long illness. She was born in Hamtramck, Michigan on June 14, 1943 to the late Theodore and Cibble (Wilderspin) Golisek. After WWII was over, the family moved back to Munising and Bert graduated from Sacred Heart School and then Wm. G. Mather High School in 1961. She and her sister, Donna, moved to Chicago where Bertie worked for the Nielsen Media Research Company. She married Daniel Giese and he joined the U.S. Navy. They were stationed in Norfolk, VA and Pensacola, FL. They returned to Munising and together had two sons, Dan and Dale, and later parted ways. Bertie waitressed at the Red Cedar and Camp II. She met Jack Witty and shared over the past thirty years together without an argument.

To say that Bert was a passionate Green Bay Packer fan would be an understatement.

She also enjoyed camping, traveling, music, dancing, and spending time with their grandchildren.

Bertie had a kindness that surrounded her and enveloped those that were near her.

She is survived by her sons – Daniel (Wendy) Giese II of Antigo, WI and Dale Giese (Katlyn Watson) of Marine City, MI; life partner – Jack Witty of Munising and his children – Tom Fetterhoff, Mona McNally-Joines, John (Camille) Fetterhoff, Scott Witty, and Tim (Danelle) Witty; granddaughters – Desirea Giese (Noah Waldschmidt), Kimberly Giese, and Brianna Giese; Jack’s numerous grandchildren; brother – Robert (Marilyn) Golisek of Paw Paw, MI; sisters – Donna (Bob) Debnar of Florida and Jodi Golisek-Nelc of Neenah, WI; and numerous nieces and nephews. Robertta was preceded in death by her parents Ted and Cibble Golisek, brother Leland “Butch” Golisek, former husband Dan Giese, Jack’s son Dennis Fetterhoff, brother-in-law Frank Nelc, and niece Victoria Frank.

Visiting time with family and friends will be held at the Bowerman Funeral Home in Munising on Saturday, March 3, 2018 from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Friends, family, and Lions fans are encouraged to come in their best Packer gear.

Interment will be at a later date at the Maple Grove Cemetery in Munising.

There will also be a gathering at the American Legion on Saturday from 2:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m.
