MARQUETTE, MI – Patrick J. “Pat” McMahon, 74, of Marquette, died peacefully Thursday evening, February 22, 2018 at his home, surrounded by family and under the care of Lake Superior Life Care and Hospice.

Pat was born on December 30, 1943 in Marquette, a son of the late Walter D. and Marion E. (Jensen) McMahon and was a lifelong Marquette resident. A 1962 graduate of Bishop Baraga High School, Pat proudly served his country for four years with the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War.

After his service, Pat returned home and began working with WNMU TV, eventually becoming the manager of the electronics department at K-Mart, a job he held for 28 years. Following the closure of K-Mart, Pat went to work for Air Gas until his retirement in 2006. Retirement was not for Pat however, so he eventually started working for Marq Tran, working with them for approximately nine years.

Pat loved to fish and go camping. He especially enjoyed providing the spaghetti dinner for the crew at deer camp. He also enjoyed golfing in his free time. More than anything else however, Pat enjoyed spending valuable time with this family especially his annual sibling weekend. He was a lieutenant with the Marquette Township Volunteer Fire Department for over 20 years. Pat was an avid Packer fan and also skated annually for the Pigs N Heat game.

He is survived by his wife, the former Sandy Dymond who he married on June 12, 1999 at Presque Isle Park in Marquette; four children, Shannon Lee McMahon of Marquette, James Patrick (Melissa) McMahon of Easley, South Carolina, Craig (Kathie) Stagliano of Negaunee and Christy (Robert) Baer of Ishpeming; five grandsons, Kendrick, Jeffrey, Kody, Kyle and Josh; siblings, Dan (Kathy) McMahon of West Bend, WI, Michael (Joanne) McMahon of St. Ignace, and Kay (David) Glass of Negaunee; a sister-in-law, Donna McMahon of Menominee, MI; mother-in-law, Bernice Dymond; brothers-in-law, Richard (Lori) Dymond and Ron Dymond; sisters-in-law, Lynn Dymond, Barb (Jim) Donato, Debbie (Mike) Massie; also several nieces and nephews.

Preceding him in death besides his parents were two brothers, Don and Bob McMahon and a brother-in-law, Ken Dymond.

Visitation will be held at the Canale-Tonella Funeral Home in Marquette on Thursday, March 1st beginning at 2 p.m. until the time of the memorial service scheduled for 5 p.m. Thursday in the funeral home with Deacon Don Thoren officiating. Members of Marquette Township Volunteer Fire Department will act as honor guard. Spring burial with military honors will take place in the Holy Cross Cemetery. A luncheon will be served in the funeral home immediately following the service.
