Judith Brown

MARQUETTE, MI – Judith Hope (Scholtus) Brown, 86, passed away peacefully on Friday, January 12, 2018 at the Brookridge Heights Assisted Living Facility surrounded by her family and caregivers of U.P. Home Health and Hospice.

Judy was born on June 11, 1931 in Marquette, the daughter of the late Carl and Sara (Tincknell) Scholtus, both of Marquette. She graduated from Graveraet High School in June 1949. She worked as a secretary for U.P. Office Supply until March 1958 when she married the love of her life, Robert J. (Bob) Brown, an airman stationed at K.I. Sawyer Air Force Base.

Judy developed the travel bug after accompanying Bob to an assignment in Bangkok, Thailand. After Bob retired from the Air Force in 1974, the family moved back to Marquette and Bob and Judy traveled to Thailand, Hong Kong, Mexico and throughout Europe, to include extended trips to Germany, Italy, Ireland, England and France.

Judy enjoyed reading, gardening, and travel. She enjoyed spending time at the family cottage on Kawbawgam Lake, picking blueberries, watching the wildlife, and spending time with family and friends. She was an avid genealogist and connected with many of her and Bob’s extended family members while tracing the family’s roots.

Judy was preceded in death by her parents and her sister, Carol (Scholtus) Jorgensen.

She is survived by Bob, her husband of almost 60 years; her sons, Richard (Debra) of Menominee, MI, Neal and James of Marquette, David (Karen) of Gurnee, IL; daughter, Joy Reddoor of Salinas, CA; granddaughter, Brigitte Brown of Denver, CO, and grandson, Robert (Sonnet) Reddoor of Lake Oswego, OR.

The Canale-Tonella Funeral Home is assisting the Brown Family and memories of Judy may be shared at canalefuneral.com.

According to Judy’s wishes, there will be no public visitation or service.
