Gary P. Kratz

ISHPEMING, MI – Gary P. Kratz, age 71, passed away on Sunday December 31, 2017 at the D.J. Jacobetti Home for Veterans while in the loving care of his wife and nursing staff.

Gary was born in Ishpeming on July 15, 1946 to the late Joseph and Marie (Larch) Kratz. He attended and was a graduate of the St. Paul Catholic High School in Negaunee. Following graduation Gary served his country in the United States Marine Corps in Vietnam during the Vietnam War. Gary received the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal and Meritorious Unit Commendation for his service to his country. Gary was a bookkeeper for the William’s Clinic in Ishpeming for 25 years.

Gary was a member of the VFW Post 3165 in Negaunee, he enjoyed bowling in the Ishpeming Bowling League, spending time with his family at camp, sitting in the sun, and was an avid Minnesota Vikings fan.

Gary is survived by his wife Linda Kratz, 4 children – Lori Lynn (Dan) Cheverette, Gary Kratz Jr., Brett (Angela) Kratz, Becky Grenier, 5 step-children – Terry (Dan) Tadgerson, Shelly (David) Thibeault, Christine (Brett Antilla) Richards, Samuel (Harmony) Richards, Kimberly (Nick) Clark, 5 siblings – Renae (Tom) Petrocik, Michael (Gaye) Kratz, Dennis (Kathy) Kratz, Patti (Doug) LaFond, Lori (Dan) Skytta, 3 grandchildren – Justice Kratz, Julianna Kratz, Dade Kratz, along with numerous step grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother- Joe Kratz, and great-great niece- Lily Abriana.

Gary’s family will greet relatives and friends at 4:30pm on Saturday January 13, 2018 at the VFW Post 3165 in Negaunee for a celebration of Gary’s life.

Gary’s family would like to thank the D.J. Jacobetti Home for Veterans Staff for the care they gave to Gary during his time there.
